When at first you don't succeed..try, try again!

After spending way too many hours painting something I was just not happy with, I looked around the studio and saw a container of skewers I usually use to make bead holes (or cook veggies on), and I grabbed the clay and started to play! I had no idea where any of this was going (as usual!) but after spending hours playing with these strange little heads, I started thinking of bodies. I guess it's no surprise to anyone that they are turning into birds! ;-)
What can I say? I have lots of ideas about ways they may evolve into a finished sculpture, but the muse has a will of her own most of the time, and I try to cooperate with her while she's in the house, if you know what I mean. Some of these faces look very pensive or serious, but they make me smile, and that's always what I'm really working towards. If my heart leaps when I see them after putting them aside for a little while, I know I'm on the right track, and that they will touch someone's heart beyond my own. I'm hoping I will feel that way after putting the painting (I worked on for days) aside. Sometimes separation is the answer, and when you return you can look upon it with new eyes and fall back into the process.
Thanks for stopping by, and please comment if you want to...It's a winter wonderland outside my window again, but I'm just happy it's Sunday! xo sue

  1. Skewers are one of my favorite art supplies, don't know what I'd do without them!
I love these new pieces. Are they polyclay or paperclay?
The little bird guy in the lower right of the second photo is my fave.

  3. The new skewer project is fabulous! Always have loved your little faces. I still have the "Leap of Faith" figure hanging over my kitchen sink. Your stones are all over my house too! Keep up the great work. Love the website.
